Farm School Programs

"If we want children to flourish, to be truly empowered, we must first allow them to love the Earth before we ask them to save it." --David Sobel

Fire Hollow Farm School promotes a nature-immersion education, interweaving a multitude of subjects and skills into the children's work and play on the farm. Our approach to education is unique and is heavily influenced by the Charlotte Mason, Reggio Emelia, and Waldorf educational philosophies. All of these philosophies adopt common themes of the importance of time spent in nature, teaching life skills, promoting independence, and educating the child as a whole person, not just their mind. The educational programming is carefully and thoughtfully planned out based on the observations and assessments during the children's play, as well as their questions about what they are observing in nature around the farm. A variety of academic subjects including reading, writing, mathematics, sciences, arts, and language are incorporated into the daily happenings on the farm. Small child-teacher ratios allow for differentiation to support individualized growth.

Farm School

At Fire Hollow Farm, we follow a one room school house model with a focus on subjects that can be taught family-style across all ages including Nature Study/Science, Literature, Music, Art, and more. We are a modern-day one room school house without walls and believe that we are all both teachers and students who can learn from one another, no matter the age.
